Is there anything in the world more irritating than a half-hearted apology?
Here' s a few you may have heard before:
"Oh baby, I meant to call you. But my freinds came by and we started watching the game....blah blah blah"
"The dog ate my homework"
"I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky"
Now, Woman's World Magazine has printed a small retraction of the Kimkins Diet (fraud) story that launched Heidi Diaz' bank account into the stratosphere, sent desperate dieters to the emergency room and unleashed a thousand angry ducks on the Low-carb blogosphere.
Let's see why this is SO not right, shall we?
First, the original story about the Kimkins diet plan was a big splashy coverstory. Inside were pictures, supposedly of Heidi "Kimmer" Diaz and the story of how she's lost 198lbs. in about a year with no negative health issues. The so-called "journalists" at WW broke their own editorial policy by not forcing Heidi to show up for a photo shoot. If she had, the story would never have been printed! Heidi was a 300+lbs. woman with NO qualifications to sell diet advice at the time the story was published. She is still a morbidly obese woman now facing a lawsuit, possibly class-action, and has had her assets frozen by the court due to a high probablity of fraud. The evidence of her fraud is readily available on the internet, yet Woman's World chooses not to publish any of that. I wonder why that is??
The "retraction" does nothing to tell their readers what is wrong with the Kimkins diet. That it is a nutritionally bankrupt plan that has caused serious health problems for the dieters featured as success stories in the original article. Their "retraction" is just an "Ooopsies. Our bad!"
The whole retraction thing is just a poorly done "CYA" by Woman's World and Bauer Publishing. So, save your money because you cannot trust anything printed in Woman's World, First for Women, In Touch, Life & Style, and CBS/ABC soaps. DON'T BUY THESE MAGAZINES!
If some desperate person dies doing Kimkins, Woman's World will have blood on their hands just as much as Kimmer will.
Apology not accepted.

Journalism 101 - Skip bad information

I'm fortunate to be in the virtual company of my Low Carb Friends everyday. And, I have good ol' Heidi - Kimmer - whatever, to thank for that. This is a group of folks who like to have fun, have biting senses of humor and work tirelessly to spread the word that Kimkins is a dangerous diet whose creator - Heidi - is a total con artist.
But what about the help Heidi's gotten in spreading her fraud? You see, most people, myself included, found out about Kimkins through Woman's World magazine. And, despite repeated pleas, news stories on KTLA, features on the Morning Show with Mike and Juliette, Woman's World refuses to acknowledge their part in helping Heidi by doing a follow-up story or a retraction.
So, what's a former jouralist like me to do?
Well, gosh darnit, I think I'll help spread the word about Woman's World and the other "fine" publications produced by Bauer publishing.
See, the power of the press (print, electronic) is not something I take lightly. The very fact of a story appearing on "the news" or in print gives it credibility in people's minds. Freedom of the press is one of the main ideals on which the United States was founded. So, along with it's awesome power comes the responsibility to tell the truth. Apparently, that doesn't matter much to Woman's World.
When Heidi sold Woman's World on her diet plan, she did so with faked success stories, fake pictures and a menu that, had the "journalist" writing the story bothered to check, would have never made it into print. And thousands of people would not have fallen prey to the Kimkins diet.

This diet makes your hair fall out and can cause serious heart and health problems. Funny, I didn't see that mentioned in the story!
So, how are we to trust anything that's written in Woman's World? Simple. You can't. So, don't buy it! Same goes for Bauer publishing's other titles including First for Women, In Touch, Life & Style, and CBS/ABC Soaps.
DON'T BUY THESE MAGAZINES! Period.
Since learning of the Kimkins scam, I've not bought a single one of these rags, and I never will. Maybe if Bauer gets hit in the pockets, they'll have to change their shoddy practices.
Save your money, girls! You might be saving yourself a lot of heartache as well.
